Abstract
"The Maine Atlantic Sea Run Salmon Commission and Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Canada are involved in a cooperative program to restore anadromous Atlantic salmon to the St. Croix River. Recent improvements to water quality in the lower river, and the construction of a pool and weir fishway at Milltown in 1980 have allowed the current restoration effort to begin. Upstream fish passage in the form of Denil fishways has been in place at the Woodland and Grand Falls dams since the mid-1960's. Components of the restoration program include stocking, assessment of adult returns, and assessment of juvenile salmon abundance. The salmon program operates under the guidance of a St. Croix river Steering Committee, to which the ASRC and DFO are parties."
