"Introduction

Bangor Hydro-Electric Company (Bangor Hydro) is proposing to construct a 345 kilovolt (kv) transmission line linking New Brunswick, Canada with Maine. The 84-mile-long segment of the line in Maine will extend from Orrington to Baileyville and cross the St. Croix River at a point in the Woodland Flowage approximately four miles north of Woodland Dam (figure 1). Lattice galvanized steel towers will be placed on each shore to support six 1.302-inch-diameter conductor wires and two 0.385-inch-diameter shield wires, which protect the conductors from lightning strikes (Figure 2).
