Abstract
"Introduction

The forests of New Brunswick take on a new look in winter. Along with the subdued colours of the evergreens, the hardwood trees and shrubs stand stark and skeletal, their branches devoid of the green leaves that once gave them shape during the summer. That change should not hinder the opportunity to identify woody plants in the field during the winter. Instead of using leaf and flower characteristics, one must turn to other reliable indicators that are present. This guide will provide illustrated features and keys that will be useful to foresters, biologists, technicians, naturalists, students and the lay public who would like to identify New Brunswick trees and shrubs, after leaf fall and before spring bud swell."
Description
This document is a field guide produced by the Maritime Forest Ranger School for the purpose of being able to accurately identify different tree species even in winter, when there is typically less foliage to assist with identification.
The document includes black and white drawn images.
Particular attention is paid to buds, bark, fruit, and growth presentation.
