New Brunswick, Fish Passage, Milltown Dam, St. Croix River, Northeast Fish and Wildlife Conference 

"This paper outlines the history and effect of manmade barriers to fish migration on the St. Croix River, an international waterway between the State of Maine and the Province of New Brunswick. A description of existing conditions on the river system, together with a general hydrology of the watershed, are provided. The rationale used for designing new fish passage facilities for the New Brunswick Electric Power Commission dam near the head of tide on the St. Croix is described. Functional design features of the proposed facilities are explained in detail. The main components of the facilities consists of: a 24-pool concrete vertical-slot fishway for upstream fish migration; a fish collection gallery in the tailrace; an attraction water supply line; and provisions for downstream passage of juvenile salmon and alewives as well as for spent adults. Emphasis is placed on hydraulic consideration and functional aspects of the design of the four main components for the proposed new fish passage facilities for the Milltown Dam." 

This document is a review of the fish passage facilities located at the Milltown Dam on the St. Croix River at St. Stephen, New Brunswick and Calais, Maine.
