New Brunswick Endangered Species Act Amendments
Abstract
"Species at risk conservation in Canada is a joint responsibility involving the provinces, territories, and the federal government. New Brunswick was a leader in species at risk conservation in 1976 when it was one of the first provinces to have a specific endangered species legislation. Since that time, a National Accord has been signed that describes how the federal, provincial and territorial governments will cooperate to conserve species at risk. The objective of species at risk laws is to prevent the loss of species due to human activities so that our children and grandchildren can have the same opportunities we have today to enjoy and benefit from the plants and animals that currently live in New Brunswick and in Canada."
Description
This document mainly consists of a copy of the New Brunswick Species at Risk Act: Proposed Elements, 14 March, 2011

The document is replicated in French

There is an introductory page that consists of an email to Lee Sochasky (former Executive Director of the St. Croix International Waterway Commission) from the Minister of New Brunswick Natural Resources Bruce Northrup.

The email outlines "Some of the key shortcomings of our existing legation are the lack of":
- an independent committee to determine which species are at risk
- a listing and delisting process that is open and transparent
- a provision for the development of plans to help recover species at risk
- flexibility in protection measures for species at risk
- flexibility in permitting activates that interact with listed species
- a formal social economic impact assessment before considering protection options

The Act is organized in the following sections:
- Purpose, Application, and Scope
- Interpretation
- Assessment of Wildlife Species
- Listing of Wildlife Species
- Recovery Planning
- Protection
- Permit
- Enforcement
- General
- Transitional Provision
