Abstract
"Convention on transboundary watercourses and international lakes

This Convention is intended to strengthen national and international actions aimed at the protection of transboundary surface and ground waters as well as ecologically sound and rational water management. The Parties to the Convention will be obliged to prevent, control and reduce pollution, particularly by hazardous substances, of waters from both point and diffuse sources, as well as to ensure that transboundary waters are used in a reasonable and equitable way in the case of activities which cause transboundary impact or are likely to do so, including any significant adverse effect on human health and safety, flora, fauna, soil, air, water, climate, landscape and cultural heritage. The Parties will also have to ensure the conservation and, where necessary, the restoration of ecosystems."
