Abstract
"This essay introduces a methodology for studying the complex American-Canadian relationship from a borderlands perspective. it is the first in a series of monographs to be published on the subject. The series' authors are Canadian and Americans who believe that scholars in both countries share the task of exploring the border's significance. Scholars contributing to the Borderlands Project come from many disciplines, including history, geography, economics, political science, sociology, anthropology, literature, and fine arts. The fact that a single, conventional methodology with which to examine border issues does not exist, allows us the freedom to explore those issues from a combination of approaches within this range of academic disciplines."
