RAMSAR: "The Convention on Wetlands of international Importance, known as 'RAMSAR Convention', is a global conservation instrument that promotes the protection and wise use of wetland ecosystems that are important to flora and fauna as well as to a major segment of the World's population. The Convention has been in effect since 1971 and was named after the city in Iran where it was first signed. As of July 1996, 93 nations are RAMSAR Convention Contracting Parties, making the Convention one of the most widely adopted conservation treaties in the World.
